The Shine Project

Our SHINE partnership team recently visited Uganda for a study tour, where we delved into the solar industry, engaged with policymakers, and held valuable discussions with VET managers, trainers, and students.

In June 2024, international partners from Spain, the Netherlands, Greece, Ghana, and Nigeria, along with our local partner from Kiryandongo Technical Institute, conducted in-depth research on Uganda’s solar energy sector.

Highlights of the Visit:

  • Meetings in Kampala: Engaged with policymakers to discuss national strategies and training needs for the solar industry.
  • Multi Stakeholder Dialogues: Participated in discussions at the EU delegation to enhance collaboration across sectors.
  • Academic Engagements: Connected with research departments at Makerere University and networked with energy entrepreneurs.
  • Field Visits: Gained on-the-ground insights from VET schools in Entebbe and the Kiryandongo district.

This visit concluded with the development of a comprehensive roadmap for greening TVET in the solar industry, which will guide future teacher training programs and curricula.
